Fæcal Bacteria in Bengal as Indicators of Sewage Contamination of Water : A Preliminary Study

چکیده
The method which we follow in the bacteriological analysis of water in Bengal was based on that used by Col. Clemesha in the study of flora of the human faeces in Madras. As the diet of the people of the Presidency of Bengal amers somewhat from that of the people of ^adras, one might suspect tlie^ faecal flora the two provinces to be not quite the same, detailed bacteriological examination of the ? ools of this province may prove to be of help assaying the import of these bacilli, indivic llally and in association, in interpretation of the ^sult of analysis of water, so we have examined ne stools of twenty-five persons of this province as a preliminary measure. Colon bacilli in Bengal faeces :?In his research in Madras, Col. Clemesha examined 751 colonies of lactose fermenters from forty-three ?t??ls; we examined 734 colonies. They were lcientified by the fermentation tests ^ on

متن کاملUse of Caffeine and Human Pharmaceutical Compounds to Identify Sewage Contamination
Fecal coliform bacteria are widely used as indicators of sewage contamination in surface water. However, there are some disadvantages in these microbial techniques including time consuming (18-48h) and inability in discriminating between human and animal fecal material sources. Therefore, it is necessary to seek a more specific indicator of human sanitary waste. In this study, the feasibility w...

Three bacteria from a tobacco industry effluent and one from a sewage sample were isolated on a medium comprising of 1% tobacco powder as sole source of nutrients. Bacteria isolated from the industrial waste water were identified as Bacillus cereus, B. alvei and B. circulans. While, Lactobacillus sp. was isolated from the sewage sample. The bacteria were optimized for various growth conditions ...
متن کاملEffect of pH, Chlorine Residual and Turbidity on the Microbial Bio Indicators of Drinking Water Network
Abstract Background and objective: Bioindicators of drinking water are always influenced by physical and chemical factors such as turbidity and chlorine. Considering the assessment of drinking water quality is based on residual chlorine, E.coli, heterotrophic bacteria and turbidity. We aimed to evaluate the effect of pH, chlorine residual and turbidity on the microbial ...
